How to buy B2B contact data without getting burned
Buying contact data is easy to get wrong. Most vendors sell the same scraped lists on a subscription and hope you don't measure the bounce rate. Here's how to tell the difference.
1. Ask when it was last verified, not sourced. Data decays fast; a list "sourced" two years ago is a different product from one verified this week.
2. Check whether the guarantee covers email. Many well-known guarantees quietly exclude email lists, the one field you actually care about.
3. Prefer ownership over access. If your data disappears when a subscription lapses, you were renting, not buying.
4. Look for a real sample. A masked preview of actual rows tells you more than any accuracy percentage.
5. Watch what happens to bad records. The honest model removes invalid rows before charging you, rather than padding the count.
